Monday, Sept 3rd - Galveston

Monday, Sept 3rd:  After a morning in the washateria (that's what they call the laundry), we headed out to Galveston.  Found a place called Casey's with a gulf view.  Gulf looks pretty murky and choppy, must be from the hurricane.  Gretchen had her first Poboy sandwich and it was huge and great.

We then found the Galveston American Legion where Roger traded his North Dakota Legion plate for Post #20 Galveston.  He has been trading them to take back to North Dakota where his home post is located.  Funny thing here is that they do not serve liquor - only beer and wine.  Different but still with friendly vets.  And the guys are begininng to talk of the Gilhooley's oysters that they will have again for dinner.

So back to the campsite for a two hour siesta.  Guys are really getting anxious about the oyster dinner.  Looking forward to ordering grilled and raw and more.

Arrived at Gilhooley's about 7ish and the waitress immediately walks over and says, "We are out of oysters."  Gretchen thought she was kidding and the guys are now speechless.  Turns out that they get their oysters from Louisiana and the hurricane has delayed the delivery.  What a bummer.  Did we say this was a bummer????!!!  Texas sized BUMMER.....So Bill and Roger had shrimp.  Gretchen had Texas grilled wings that were wonderful.  We even brought in our own wine for this oyster dinner and only had a bottle of sparkling wine to soothe the oyster-bummer.

Back to the campsite to toast our last night together.  Bill has decided to make a pit stop in New Orleans so his taste for oysters can be taken care of.  We will be on the oyster hunt as we begin our travel west tomorrow.
