Wednesday, Sept 5th: Alamo

Wednesday, Sept 5th:  There was no post yesterday since all we did was drive to San Antonio.  While the countryside was different (old stores, abondoned trailers) there was nothing to write home about.  Turned out to be another restful day.  Arrived in San Antonio and honkered in for a night of rest.

So Wednesday, we prepared for a hot day in San Antonio (100 degrees).  Blue gets to go to the doggie park to sniff and pee and Roger raises the flags.

There is bus service right in front of this KOA and believe it or not, the fare was $1.10/person to get downtown!  Upon arriving in San Antonio, we met a young lass from Finland.  He, like our friend Bill, was on a solo journey across the states in a tent.  We were all hungry so went to the RiverWalk.  This is cool.  The River Walk is 5 miles long below the streets of San Antonio with all kinds of stores and restaurants on the river.  Hence the name RiverWalk!!  We ate Mexican at a place called Rita's and were seranaded by a mariachi band.  Had enchilladas and margaritas which were all good and tasty.

Then the hot walk to the Alamo.  We had earlier went to Imax for  45 minute presentation of the battle at the Alamo.  It was very informative.  The Alamo is not a museum but rather a shrine.  Hats off, no cells, and quiet in memory of the 189 who lost their lives in giving Texas their freedom.

Felt the need for another margarita and tried them on the river at Casa Rio.  Having our fill of margaritas for now, we found the $1.10 bus to get back to our KOA.  Pool for Gretchen, more sniffing at the doggie park for Blue,  margaritas for Roger.
