Sept 15 Mesilla

September 15, Saturday:  Our last night in Las Cruces.  Had another great Mexican lunch at La Posta (and, yes, Billy the Kid was here! Was arrested and sent to Lincoln where he escaped jail and was subsequently killed by Pat Garrett).  La Posta is the only surviving stagecoach station of the Butterfield Overland Mail route and is beautiful with a tank of piranhas, noisy macaws, and Amazon parrots.  Boy, we are just filled with history, aren't we?

Then the much awaited parade to celebrate the 202nd Mexican Independence Day (from the Spanish) that was a whopping 25 minutes long!  Called Diez y Seiz de Septiembre Fiesta.  Festivities were on the Mesilla plaza.  Roger was thrilled with the old cars and tractors.

Off to Las Cruces Farmer's Market but when we got there at 1:00 they were closing all the tents!  Guess it was siesta time.  We went to shop for jewelry so we will start looking again tomorrow.

Back to the camp site for a siesta afternoon.  Tombstone tomorrow.
