Thursday, Sept 6th: Holy cow, this weather is relentless. Today it topped 101 degrees and there we were walking in downtown San Antonio like a couple of tourons (that's tourist who are morons!).
We caught the $1.10/person bus to get to the Texas Rangers Museum/Buckhorn Saloon. We were "roped" into (see picture) the museum/saloon by Tex. Up to the bar for drinks that we could take into the museum (only on Texas). It was a pretty extensive museum. The saloon, oldest in Texas, was established in 1881 where Teddy Roosevelt recuirted Rough Riders and where Pancho Villa is rumored to have planned the Mexican Revolution. Pretty neat? Anyhow, the bar was handcrafted of marble and cherry wood and there are 1,200 mounts all over the place.................looking at you!!!!
Then off to the River Walk to go to a place called Dicks where all the waiters do is insult you! It actually was fun. Gretchen ordered "ass bytes" which was 3 hand pattied bite sized burgers on mini buns. "Just the right size for your mouth if you would ever stop talking long enought to take a bite" it says on the menu. Oh yeah, very funny but over done so we did not get charged!!
So after trying to find a bus to Mission San Jose in that aweful heat and couldn't, we decided to get back to campsite. Now we are tired, heat stroked, and thirsty and who sits in front of us but this nail biting jerk. His nails were already short but he chewed and chewed and chewed. Gretchen wanted to slap his hand and say "Stop it!". He then proceeded to twirl his sideburns! and then back to chewing his nails. Good grief. And continued when he got off the bus. Yikes.
Back to the campsite where Roger hired a company to wash the motorhome. It needed it since we had come through a million Texas sized bugs!
Then, of course, Gretchen hit the pool while Blue did his peeing and playing thing at the doggie park again.
Off to Del Rio tomorrow. 106 degrees!
picture: Blue with his Buzzy/Laura toy. The other stuffed animals they gave him he has chewed up. This one survives and we think it is because it looks like him!
picture; Laura's flower that looks like it won't last this trip. Have already lost 1/2 of them!
picture: "Tex" who ropes you into the Buckhorn Saloon.
Picture: Roger at the 1881 Buckhorn bar admiring some of the 1,200 mounts.

picture; The mounts, cherry wood and marble back bar. Isn't it lovely? And how did it survive these years?
