Wed-Thurs-Fri, September 12-13-14.
When we arrived at the KOA in Las Cruces on 9-11, the next day, we felt like doing nothing! So Roger grilled some burgers and Blue made hisself at home on his bed!
Thursday: We travelled in a rental car to Silver City where Billy the Kid was born and had his first jail arrest and escape Geez, we just seem not be able to get away from this guy. The drive back was through the Gila National Forest. Only saw one animal, a mule deer. Sights were pretty, though, as we wound ourselves through many curves and hair pin turns. Good thing we did not have the motorhome! There was an overpass at the end of this ride that the motorhome would not have made through.
Friday: Went to El Paso, Texas. Question: do you know who produces the world's most pecans? No, it's not Georgia, but New Mexico. We saw many, many pecan farms on the way to El Paso. But first, a lunch stop at Chope's Cafe in La Mesa, New Mexico. A real local scene , reminiscent of a border-town bar with great food. Another Mexican lunch with margaritas and was worth it. This food seems to still be getting better.
The street in El Paso was loaded with stores that were loaded with clothes, shoes, blue jeans, and more. It looked like a huge flea market with individual stores!
Took a scenic drive above El Paso. You could see Mexico, New Mexico, the Sun Bowl and UTEP. More food at the Rib Hut for Texas style ribs. Blue got the rib bone when we got back to the Motorhome and boy was he happy!!! Tail still wagging!
We drove over the Rio Grande several times. Thought this would be bigger (el grande) but looks like a normal river! Gretchen wants to get out and go swimming! Hey, where's the pontoon boat?

picture: Upper left sign saying "Rio Grande". Taken by Roger. Oops, guessed he missed it although we were standing still!
By the way, we did see a roadrunner. But he got across the street so fast, Gretchen missed the picture. She will be on the hunt for another. Cuz, the coyote's after him.........
Tomorrow we will try to find the fiesta for the 202nd Mexican Independence. Think we can find a margarta or two? Stay tuned.
